Blue Balls Wash

Traditionally blueing was used in wash water to help white clothing look whiter. On wash day, one of several tubs set up to scrub clothes would be a tub in which a few blue balls had been disolved in the water. Also called bluing or añil in folklore magic, it is used by some as a lucky wash, particularly, every entrance to the home.  It is used in folk magic for gambling luck, spiritual protection, house cleansing, and purifying rituals.
